Rituals of Holi

Holi is one of the famous festivals celebrated in India and to enjoy the Holi celebrations one must visit the northern part of India. People celebrate the festival of Holi with lot of enthusiasm and a perfect Holi celebration can be witnesses at Mathura and Varindavan, as these places are closely associated with Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. Holi is celebrated for two days where on the first day lighting of a bonfire occurs that is known as the burning of Holika. For burning Holika children collect wood and twigs much before to light a big bonfire. There is a very famous legend of Holika and Prahlad that is associated with this day and it is believed that this burning of Holika marks victory of good over evil. The next day of Holi is celebrated as the main day when people throw colors on each other and wish each other a very Happy Holi .
 

To see and enjoy this colorful Holi one must visit the northern part of India especially Mathura and Varindavan. Children also love to celebrate this festival of colors and they start preparing for it much before. Kids buy pichkaris, water balloons and colors to play Holi with their friends. Holi is a festival to forget all your quarrels and resolve them. Delicious food items are an integral part of Holi festival and some of the famous food items of Holi include gujiyas, malpuas, kanji ke vade, bhang and many others. The celebrations also include Holi songs and dances.
