With life’s changing pace, the Lohri celebrations have also changed. Today the tradition of singing Lohri in the community, preparing traditional goodies, and other customs are skipped especially in the urban areas. Readymade delicacies, both traditional and modern, are available in the market and they save the time and effort of the housewife to a great extent.
Nowadays festivals are regarded as the time to relax and enjoy the day, as the next day is another hectic day of cutthroat competition. However, the most important aspect of Lohri is still the evening bonfire, and this custom is religiously followed at least for beating the chill if not for thanking the Sun God or Agni. And no matter how modern the time is, the attachment of the people of Punjab with mother earth is undeniable.
